Ask yourself a few questions today:
What does romanticism mean to you?
Can you fall in love with yourself?
What made you smile today?
Are you LIVING your life or just letting it pass by?
Does anyone else hold the key to your happiness?
Considering how important mental health & wellness is in our busy lives where we are constantly stressed-out, overtired and still running without stopping to breathe, eat or think; romanticizing every moment is really important. Romanticizing is how I've learnt to live my life eventually. Since we can't just hit pause on our everyday tasks whether it's working, dropping kids to school, doing everyday chores, we need to learn to live for the smallest reasons. That's when we'll know we are really living.
It would mean the world to me if just by sharing my story I can inspire anyone to "write in their heart that every day is the best day in the year" and start living life to the fullest.
The idea to romanticize your life came to be when depression had just started creeping into my life. The space you live in can have such a big impact on your state of mind, so I started covering the entire wall in my bedroom with motivational quotes to wake up to and made sure that my room reflected who I wanted to be in that time period. I kept a journal since I was little, but this time I started a separate journal in which I would just jot down one happiest moment from each day. Documenting those small beautiful moments whether it was just my love waiting outside my work, a stranger in the bus doing a simple gesture, a good hair day, a special meal, rain or whatever made everything I did fun or “cute” and suddenly made life more worth living.
When I read back at those moments today, they take me back into those days and keep me grounded in the positive memories I made rather than focusing on the reasons for my depression. I also enjoy taking photos or making a video of trips I undertake so I can revisit my happy moments whenever I want. These little habits of mine trained my mind to focus on the positive aspects of life as opposed to only the negative. I've struggled with mental illness and there were days when none of it felt like it was under my control or worth enjoying but I gradually learnt to make life dreamy for me. I became my own lover and started enjoying the little things that made me extremely happy. Even if it was just sipping my favourite coffee, or buying a nice dress, I made sure to turn it into a MOMENT!
Growing up, it was drilled into my head by mom that "God is watching upon your every action, so make sure you're always kind and truthful". Being a creative person, I gave it an extra angle and started living as if it every second of my life was being recorded to be made into my very own blockbuster movie. Even today, I constantly think while I'm living as the main character of my life/movie, it's being recorded on a tape which I thoroughly wanna enjoy watching when I'm done. The audience of my life (whoever they might be) watching my life out there should enjoy every moment so I try to make the best out of everything. While doing that, even if I am showing my flaws somedays and not doing my best, I feel okay as I've come to accept nothing can be 100% perfect!
"I really just want to be the warm yellow light that pours all over everyone I love!"
I cannot stress enough for y'all to fall in love with whatever is happening around you and create little moments of happiness for yourself. The worst thing we do to ourself is get so engrossed in our work life that we forget to take care of ourself. Take time out for yourself and do out of the way things to make yourself happy. Treat yourself and pamper yourself everyday. We all have special people around us who love us, care for us but the most important thing is to love yourself first.
And just like that, think of yourself as the main character of your life. If you don't, life will continue to pass you by, all the little things that make it beautiful will go unnoticed. Live life to the fullest, let nobody tell you how to live. There are so many ways you can make your life beautiful, just find your own! Do every single thing with a purpose and live everyday like you are about to shoot the best part for the movie that's your life. Because with purpose, every single day can be special!!
It's easier said than done, but don't wait for something better to come by or wait for the perfect moment to fall in love with. It's literally every moment. If you don't do it today, at the end you'll end up feeling empty because you ignored everything that went by just waiting for something better your entire life.
The outside world might not revolve around you, but your world does revolve around you, and only you. So what say? Glamorize your life, after all you're the star! ❤️
